Three Common Reasons Your Thermostat is Blank

A blank thermostat screen is alarming — but it’s often caused by something simple. Here are the three most common reasons your thermostat display has gone dark.

1. Dead Batteries

If your thermostat runs on batteries, this is the first thing to check. Replace them and see if the display comes back. Most battery-powered thermostats need new batteries every 1-2 years.

2. Tripped Breaker

A tripped circuit breaker can cut power to your thermostat. Check your electrical panel for any tripped breakers and reset them. If the breaker trips again, there may be an underlying electrical issue.

3. Tripped Safety Switch

Most air handlers have a safety float switch that shuts the system down if the condensate drain line clogs and water begins to overflow. A clogged drain line is the most common trigger. Clear the drain line and the thermostat should come back online.

If none of these fix the issue, your thermostat may need to be replaced. Contact Air & Energy at 941-778-0773 for thermostat and HVAC service in Bradenton.
