If you’ve heard about the R-410A refrigerant phase-out and aren’t sure what it means for your AC system, here’s what you need to know.
R-410A is the refrigerant used in most residential AC systems installed over the past two decades. It replaced the older R-22 (Freon), which was phased out due to its ozone-depleting properties.
R-410A has a high global warming potential (GWP). The EPA is transitioning the industry to lower-GWP alternatives like R-454B and R-32 under new regulations that took effect in 2025.
If your current system uses R-410A, it will continue to work — but servicing it may become more expensive as supply decreases. If you’re planning a replacement, now is a good time. Call Air & Energy at 941-778-0773 for guidance.
