What can be flushed?

One of the most common causes of plumbing problems in Bradenton homes is flushing things that should never go down the toilet. Here’s the definitive guide.

What CAN Be Flushed

Only two things should ever be flushed: human waste and toilet paper. That’s it.

What Should NEVER Be Flushed

  • Wipes — Even “flushable” wipes don’t break down the way toilet paper does. They’re one of the leading causes of sewer clogs and pump failures.
  • Paper towels — Much thicker than toilet paper. They don’t dissolve in water.
  • Cotton balls and swabs — Cotton doesn’t dissolve and can accumulate in pipes.
  • Feminine hygiene products — Designed to absorb moisture, not dissolve in it.
  • Medications — These should be disposed of through a pharmacy take-back program, not flushed.
  • Dental floss — Wraps around other debris and creates clogs.
  • Grease or cooking oil — Solidifies in pipes and causes blockages.
